Two-Tone Shower Remodel in Hightstown, NJ Picture 4 | BMR BelMax Remodeling

The defining feature of this bathroom remodel in Hightstown, NJ was the shower itself. Instead of using one tile throughout the wet area, the design split the shower walls into two distinct finishes: white tile on the lower portion and green tile above. That transition gave the shower more visual structure without making the room feel overly busy, and it meant the layout had to be planned carefully before installation began.

This was a full bathroom remodel, not just a tile replacement. BMR Belmax Remodeling demolished the existing bathroom, rebuilt the shower from the substrate forward, completed the required plumbing and electrical work, installed the vanity, toilet, lighting, medicine cabinet, accessories, new entry door, and finished the room with new tile, trim, paint, and final cleanup. The Shower Was Built as a Complete System

The most important part of this remodel happened before the finish tile went up. The shower was rebuilt with a new drain, new site-built base, waterproofing, tile backer, and a recessed niche integrated into the wall assembly.

That sequence matters. A shower can look finished at the surface and still perform poorly if the base, drain, corners, penetrations, or niche are not handled correctly underneath. Here, the shower construction was treated as one continuous system rather than a collection of separate tasks.

The recessed niche was built and waterproofed as part of the shower wall before tile installation. That allowed the niche to become part of the finished wall rather than something added later. The shower floor received mosaic tile, while the curb and bathroom entry were finished with marble thresholds to create clean transitions between surfaces.

A Two-Tone Tile Layout Instead of One Continuous Finish

The shower wall design was one of the more distinctive parts of the project. White tile was installed on the lower section of the shower walls, with green tile continuing above it to the top of the wet area.

That kind of layout depends heavily on alignment. The transition between the two materials needs to stay consistent around corners and across the full shower perimeter. If the lower tile courses are even slightly out of level, the color break makes the variation obvious.

The wall preparation and tile layout therefore had to be planned together. The visual impact comes from the contrast between the two finishes, but the quality of the result depends on the substrate and the accuracy of the installation behind it.

Plumbing, Electrical, and Fixture Coordination

The project included rough plumbing and electrical work for the new bathroom layout, followed by finish installation of the homeowner-selected fixtures.

The shower valve and related components were installed as part of the new shower assembly. The vanity, sink, faucet, and toilet were also installed once the room was ready for finish work.

Electrical work included connection of a lighted medicine cabinet, installation of a vanity light, and a recessed light in the shower area. These additions improved visibility in the two places where lighting matters most: at the vanity and inside the shower.

The medicine cabinet required its own electrical connection, which had to be coordinated before the wall was finished. That is another example of why fixture selections matter before drywall and tile work are complete. A powered mirror or medicine cabinet affects wiring location in a way that a standard wall-mounted mirror does not.

The Entry Door Became Part of the Remodel Too

The bathroom entry door was replaced as part of the project, including new trim, hardware, and paint. That might sound like a minor detail compared with the shower rebuild, but it affects how finished the project feels when viewed from the hallway.

Leaving an older door and casing directly next to a newly remodeled bathroom often makes the transition look incomplete. Replacing and finishing the entry door helped the room feel updated from the moment you enter, rather than starting the renovation visually only after crossing the threshold.

Baseboards, bathroom accessories, and full-room painting completed the interior finish work.

Bathroom Remodeling in Hightstown, NJ

Bathrooms in Hightstown and the surrounding Mercer County area often require more coordination than the visible finishes suggest. Waterproofing, plumbing locations, electrical connections, door transitions, and substrate preparation all affect how the final tile and fixtures come together.

For homeowners considering a bathroom renovation in the area, this project is a good example of a full remodel where the shower design drove much of the technical work behind the finished surfaces.
